The History of AquaResp

Here is a short description of the AquaResp versions, why they were created, and why they were abandoned.

Once upon a time – approx 2011 – , it started with Prof. John F. Steffensen asking Morten Bo Svendsen, then a student, whether he could make some software for aquatic respirometry. From then on, AquaResp has appeared in many shapes. But the underlying idea is to provide free software for aquatic intermittent respirometry, enabling better experiments and data (compared to a manual approach). For in-depth description of the experimental setup, see Svendsen et al (2015)

Aquaresp Version 1

Aquaresp for Excel (version1) is no longer available for download, as I used too much time for support. One qoute applies very well to this situation

Programming is like sex. One mistake and you have to support it for the rest of your life.
– Michael Sinz

Our mistake were to try and implement Aquaresp in Excel / VBA as this platform simply does not behave the same on all pc’s. So while we had the chance, we chose to disinherit AquaResp version 1. (March 2014)

Aquaresp Version 2

Aquaresp 2 (version1) is no longer available for download, as AquaResp 3.0 is the most present version. One qoute somehow applies to this situation

You’ve baked a really lovely cake, but then you’ve used dog shit for frosting.
– Steve Jobs

The qoutes applies mostly because I think it is funny.

However, AquaResp 3 is much more versatile, and much easier for me to update and manage. So while we had the chance, we chose to disinherit AquaResp version 2. (December 2018)
